Keep the heat and Save Money

Has your Christmas spending left you out in the cold? The last thing you would sacrifice is heating your home, so here are some helpful tips to keep the heat and save money!

Bring on the blankets

There’s no shame in piling on layers and mountains of blankets, especially if you refuse to turn on the heat to save some money. According to The American Down and Feather Council, feather-stuffed comforters, pillows and mattress toppers are the best when it comes to heat insulation.

Use your ceiling fan

Although this sounds like the last thing you want to do on a crisp winter morning but ceiling fans will mix the warm air up top with the cooler air in your home. Be sure to set your fan on low and turning clockwise.

Apply Window Film

Window film or tint sounds more like a “keep the heat out” summer thing, but it also will trap heat inside, just as it reflects outside light, it’ll keep your home cool during the summer months. It’s a win, win situation. You can find window film in most home improvement stores and install them yourself.

Don’t forget the basics

Just like window film and tint, curtains and drapes will work the same way in keeping your home well insulated with heat. Thicker the curtain, the better.

Most people keep their water heater at a nice, constant 140deg, but try to keep it at 120deg instead to save on energy. It will still provide you with a soothing, heated shower,

Make sure those fireplace dampers are shut, keep room doors closed and heating vents and radiators are free of obstruction.
